Summit Point Golf & Country Club
Lipa, Batangas, Philippines
Design Style: Course Type: Private Residential
Setting: Tropical

Located in cooler climes at 1,200 ft of altitude south of Manila, Summit Point is the first “tribute” course in the Robert Trent Jones II portfolio. As per the owner’s request, we designed a collection of golf holes inspired by holes at some of the best-known courses in the world, including Oakland Hills, Royal Dornoch, Pine Valley, Sotogrande, Augusta National, and others. This 7,017 yard master planned community course sits amidst bamboo forests and coconut palms beneath a backdrop of lush mountains.

RTJ II employed state of the art computer technology and aerial photography in an effort to create holes that are true to various stylistic and strategic design elements of the originals without being mere copies. One of our challenges at Summit Point was to adhere to our philosophy of designing natural golf courses that fit well into their sites while at the same time creating features inspired by a wide variety of holes set in varying topographies. In accomplishing this, we moved less than 150,000 sq meters of dirt and capped the entire golf course with sand to improve drainage. We also used advances in turf engineering and placement of native grasses to create a filtration system that improves water quality on the site. Five holes play beside a deep barranca bounding the east side of the property. Holes nine and eighteen play to a double green in front of the clubhouse.

Our founder, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., says, "Summit Point was the first international golf course specifically designed as a celebration of the best that golf has to offer from throughout the world.”
