English translation of the "30 Best Golf Courses in Norway" by www.golferen.no
Miklagard's golf course has been highly praised by top PGA European Tour players. Others think it is overrated. In www.golferen.no's national golf course rating, the course goes all the way to the top - ahead of the new comer Nøtterøy!
"This is great news. We are continually working to please the golfing public. This will inspire us and give us more guts to become even better!" says general mangager Tore Waago, who's look-alike twin brother Bjørn, happens to be the general manager of Nøtterøy in second place.
"We are very aware of the importance to have a wide variety of golf courses in Norway. We aim to be a high quality championship golf course and are working hard to make the players' experience the highest quality on all parts of the course here at Miklagard." says Waago.
Somewhat surprisingly, Nøtterøy placed second. The course opened last summer, and has received a lot of praise. Meland has received both critical and positive comments after the course opened for play, Today it is an exciting and unique high quality golf course awarded with a 3rd place in the ratings.
The Jury for the "best 30 golf courses" was composed as follows:
- Golf course designer: 4
- Elite players: 8
- General golf course managers: 5
- Teaching PGA pros and coaches: 8
- Golf jounalists: 6
- Other golf administrators: 8
- Golf equipment distributors: 4
- 'Open group': 6
The Jury rated on basis of the following parameters:
- Golf course design - max. 40 points
- Overall golfing experience - max. 30 points
- Golfing challenge - max. 20 points
- Atmosphere - max. 10 points
This is the same rating system as conducted for Golf World magazine in the UK in their Top 100 best list of golf courses for the British Isles and the continental Europe.
This is the first rating of its kind in Norway on such broad basis. It will be followed up by a new rating after the 2004 season.
