Rainmakers Resort and Club
Alto NM United States
Just north of the charming mountain village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Rainmakers Resort and Club pays tribute to an ancient native culture and to the natural beauty of the land itself. Named for a twelfth century shaman who was responsible for managing the precious commodity of water, Rainmakers also works hard to conserve this scarce resource. Carved into the high mountain walls, the course features 18 challenging and exciting holes of golf.
Golf Course Design by Robert Trent Jones II
Golf course designer Robert Trent Jones II applied nearly shamanistic creativity in designing a golf course that protects and enhances the environment on this rugged, textured site through the use of innovative technologies. An on-course weather station connected to low distribution sprinkler heads ensures that the grass is only watered when necessary. We lined the fairways and greens with a polymer substance that traps and cools water so that the course can use 30% less than it otherwise would. This process also allows for the use of lower nitrate fertilizer, which is better for natural systems. And we chose turf grasses and a grassing plan that minimize water usage. In further support of the owner's environmentally responsible vision, our design set aside 135 acres of open space in perpetuity, which will help protect wildlife, including both sedentary and migrating waterfowl. Ninety percent of the revegetation on and around the course was accomplished with plants that originally grew on the site.
Prestigious Private Club at 7,000 Feet
This prestigious private club is Located at 7,000 feet (and playing to just over 7,200 yards), the golf course—the first Audubon International Signature Sanctuary in New Mexico—meanders through meadows of native grasses between pinons, junipers, and Ponderosa pines. Arroyos, canyons, and rock outcroppings create challenges on a number of holes, and mountain breezes add an invisible and shifting hazard. Fairways were designed to receive low running shots hit beneath the wind. Elevation changes and expansive views add to the drama of the golf round and also elevate the moods of golfers.
Inclusive Tee Box Options
Each hole at Rainmakers features 4-6 sets of tee boxes making it fun for all skill levels and abilities. Don’t miss your chance to grab a tee time at Rainmakers Golf Club, where in 2018 Golf Digest rated it as one of the top three golf resorts in New Mexico.
