In 2010, The Celtic Manor Resort's Wentwood Hills course played host to the eagerly anticipated Ryder Cup, marking the first occasion this prestigious event took place on Welsh soil. Golf enthusiasts from around the world fixed their attention on the resort as the teams from the United States and Europe battled it out on the scenic course during the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Beauty and Challenge Combined

Golfers can enjoy the beauty and challenge of this design, which we created to host a major golf tournament while still appealing to resort guests. Although the championship layout stretches to 7,403 yards, multiple sets of tees allow golfers of less than world-class ability to enjoy the course.

Praise from Golf Insiders

Already host to the Welsh Open and other competitions, Wentwood Hills has garnered high praise from golf insiders. Seve Ballesteros called it “one of the most beautiful courses I have played on.” Ken Lindsay, president of the PGA of America, remarked, “The course is a strong test of golf and in excellent condition.” And Sandy Jones, the chief executive of the British PGA, said, “Celtic Manor has established itself as a leading golf venue in the UK, if not in the world.”

Blend of Styles in Welsh Countryside

A parkland layout that serves as the centerpiece of a five-star destination resort, Wentwood Hills unfurls across rolling Welsh countryside, climbing wooded slopes and routing across the floor of the Usk Valley. Its blending of British and American styles is “a bit of Augusta, a bit of Florida, and a lot of Wales.” Excellent drainage ensures ideal turf conditions, however inclement the weather.

Scenic Features and Ambiance

Carefully sculpted bunkers and the use of an existing estuary and other water hazards contribute to Celtic Manor’s ambiance. As you decipher the break on your final putt, imagine the eyes of the world upon you.
