Eagle Point is located ten minutes from the town of Medford and the Rogue Valley International Airport in southern Oregon, 35 miles north of the California border, and close to Crater Lake National Park. Designed by golf architect Robert Trent Jones II, this 7,099-yard layout offers views of 9,495-ft Mt. McLoughlin, the Table Rocks, and a number of volcanic peaks from terrain that rolls gently through meadows crossed by streams. Sand is visible as well, in the form of strategic and directional bunkers. Thanks to masterful drainage techniques and fairways that we veneered with six inches of sand, this incredible golf value is open for play all year. The Oregon Golf Association was impressed enough with our work here to say that “with Eagle Point, Jones Jr. has created an ideal public golf venue.” The New York Times predicted that the course “will rank among the best in the Pacific Northwest.”
As it moves through its pastoral setting, Eagle Point provides a collection of optical challenges, such as bunkers that appear to hug the greens but actually lie much farther out. Four sets of tees and large, muscular putting surfaces lend further character. The front nine routes clockwise through a flat, open plain; the back side encompasses a number of elevation changes. Eagle Point's wide fairways and fast greens make it both challenging and forgiving.
The 580-yard fourth hole is made easier than it sounds with the help of a prevailing wind and by avoiding the central fairway bunker. The 471-yard sixth hole is possibly the most difficult, serving up a three-course meal of length, water, and sand. Several tee shots at Eagle Point-including the one on the 591-yard sixteenth-play directly at Mt. McLoughlin.
Eagle Point is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the region and is a championship-level golf course that also features lodging for a complete stay-and-play experience.
