Located in Canada’s “Silicon Valley North,” The Marshes Golf Club combines world-class golf with corporate offices. Robert Trent Jones II was presented with an unusual site that encompassed such natural features as wetlands, meadows, and hardwood forests. As the course name implies, The Marshes’ design preserved extensive marshlands, carefully routing the course so that the site’s natural features enhance the golfing experience and provide strategic interest. The result qualified as an Audubon Cooperative Wildlife Sanctuary Course. The property’s Brookstreet Hotel and Spa allows hotel guests to share in the serenity of the golf course landscape.

The first six holes at The Marshes wind through hardwood forest and meadow. We performed considerable sculpting to create the rolling terrain here among a rocky, tree-studded landscape. Our design philosophy called for many bent grass chipping areas around generously contoured greens. The ninth and eighteenth greens share a putting surface that occupies 30,000 sq. ft, an apt metaphor for the entire golf course design, which is big by any standard, including standards of innovation. The Marshes represents the final design collaboration between Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and Sr.

“We are very pleased with our project and how it has been received,” said The Marshes’ general manager, Tony Dunn. “We will host a Professional Ladies event in our first full year of operations, which is an unusual honor, both for us and for the golf course architect. The Prime Minister of Canada was our first guest to play the full course-and he enjoyed it enough to go back for more on his first visit.”

Championship Achievements The Marshes has proven its tournament-worthy design by hosting five PGA of Canada Senior Championships, along with numerous local and provincial amateur championships. This competitive legacy demonstrates the course's ability to challenge elite players while remaining accessible to golfers of all skill levels.

Playing Experience The course provides excellent versatility with up to five tee decks per hole, ensuring playability for golfers across all skill levels. The unique balance of holes was intentionally designed to take advantage of the natural landscape, with equal distribution of par-threes, par-fours, and par-fives across the course.
