Of more than 240 golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones II, perhaps the most challenging was the 18 Hole Golf Course at Moscow Country Club, located just 40 km from the Kremlin. But whereas the challenges in designing most golf courses occur in the field, Moscow Country Club's were of a political nature. The project took twenty years from inception to completion. RTJ II demonstrated our pioneering spirit by helping to create the first eighteen-hole layout in Russia. Our founder, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., recalls, “When I first saw the Reds on the greens, I knew the cold war was really over.”

Even today, when by some estimates Russia is home to 100,000 millionaires and western-style development—including golf development— is booming, Moscow Country Club is consistently ranked as the best course in the nation. As host to the PGA European Tour's Russian Open , the venue has helped to put Russia on the world golf map.

Moscow Country Club is a traditional risk/reward design that plays through forests of birch and evergreens. The 7,015-yard course features water on half the holes. While the political challenges are in the past, the golf challenges live on.

The country club also features swimming pools, a sports complex, a practice facility, and a 131-room hotel across this 300-acre property.
