Located 20 minutes from downtown Oslo and close to the new Gardermoen International Airport, Miklagard Golf Club was designed with the intention that it will one day host a European Tour event. All of the holes are named for Norse monarchs and deities, and the course itself takes its name from the moniker given by the Vikings to present-day Istanbul, where Europe and Asia meet. Miklagard is RTJ II's first course in Norway but it has already garnered rave reviews. We’ll let Robert Trent Jones Jr., describe this one himself . . .
Jones says, “This breathtaking 6,707-meter golf course is set in a beautiful farming landscape, its grasses burnished with northern summer sun and glistening in the champagne snow of winter. This is a big, brash course as impressive as its Norwegian Viking history. It takes fierce, strong men to match its hilly terrain, and beautiful Nordic ladies to equal the charm of its lake-lined and flower-laden attractions. We are proud to welcome Miklagard into our worldwide family of golf courses.”
And in the words of Craig Dyce, the General Manager of PGA European Tour Courses, “We firmly believe that in Miklagard we have become involved in the premier golf facility in Norway. This goes right from your wonderful golf course to the first-class practice facilities and the welcoming clubhouse.”
In case this isn’t praise enough, touring professional Trevor Immelman has commented that Miklagard possesses the best greens he’s ever played on. Management values the conditions of these greens so deeply that they will fine any player found without a divot tool, and eject any player who carries one but doesn’t use it.
